Scrap Africa's Challenge # 19 - Patchwork Effect!

Hi Everyone!

Happy Tuesday!  I can't believe that I actually have time to make a scrapbook page just for so!  I am absolutely loving having some time off and not having to worry about going in to work for a couple of weeks! Yay!

I have been meaning to scrap a page for my niece, Sarah, about her 13th birthday this year.  We had such a wonderful time celebrating it with her, but I just have not found the time to make her a scrapbook page!  Having this week off gave me the perfect time to complete it.  I am so happy that I came across a wonderful "Patchwork Effect" challenge at Scrap Africa, and wanted to participate in it as I made Sarah's layout.

My beautiful niece, Sarah's, birthday falls on May 5 each year: Cinco de Mayo!

. . . and the Kentucky Derby always takes place on the Saturday of her birthday weekend!

For the past few years, we have watched the Kentucky Derby, and made it a part of the celebration for Sarah's birthday!  This year was no exception.  Here are some of the pictures that I took at her party so you can see what I mean:

The newspaper article with each horse's odds:

We are all decked out in hats brought by grandmothers, Nancy and Regina:

And they're off:

Nancy and Anne both picked the winning horse and won the "pot" that we each put a dollar in.

Sarah wanted cupcakes this year for her13th birthday:

And she had her nails done and received an extra special gift from her parents - her beautiful ring:

Here are Anne, Katie, Sarah, and Michael:

And a very special picture of the beautiful 13 year old birthday girl:

I just love Sarah so much, and wanted to make her a special layout for her 13th birthday.  I actually found a wonderful challenge at Scrap Africa!

Challenge #19 is all about using a patchwork effect somewhere on your page.  I decided to take part in the Scrap Africa challenge because it really inspired me.   Also, I received an amazing RAK from Nancy (check out her blog here!) for winning a blog hop!  I used some of my winnings for this layout!  Thanks so much, Nancy!!!!!

Here is my finished page:

I used one of my favorite sketches from Becky Fleck's book "PageMaps2" for my page. Here is the sketch that you can find on page 117 of the book:

And here are some close-ups of my layout:

Thank you, Scrap Africa, for the inspiration to make my page today!  I am so happy that I got the chance to participate in your challenge!

And thank YOU, for stopping by and visiting my blog today!  I hope you enjoyed seeing Sarah's birthday celebration!

Have a great rest-of-your Tuesday!  I just saw the royal baby for the first time, and I must say, seeing them so happy brought joyful tears to my eyes.
