Happy second Wednesday of 2013!

Good Morning everyone and happy Wednesday!  I can't believe that we are into our second week of 2013 already.  It has been a whirlwind of a holiday season for us, and have enjoyed having Katie home with us for 2 weeks!  We just took her back to Penn State this past Sunday . . . nobody warned me that it would be just as hard to drop her off the second time as the first, back in August of last year!

I forgot to bring my camera, but managed to get this photo of the book store with my cell phone.  Katie figured out that renting books that aren't in her major is much more cost effective than buying them, so the book bill was not as bad this semester!

I also want to share with you the latest sketch challenge at Scrap Africa. I came across Scrap Africa's blog last month and I absolutely love it! I really found a lot of inspiration there, and I know you will, too.

So without further ado, here is their Sketch #13:

And my take:

I used a photo that I took in our backyard after a recent snow storm.  I also got a new snowflake template for Christmas, so tried using gel medium mixed with white paint for my background snowflakes, along with the chipboard ones that I had on hand from Basic Grey!  (The background paper is Basic Grey, also.)  For my journaling, I used the lyrics from a favorite old song, "I Am A Rock," by Simon and Garfunkel.

Thank you, Scrap Africa!

And a great big thanks to you for stopping by my blog today.
Again, I would like to wish you all a happy and healthy 2013, filled with many blessings
and lots of scrapping!

  1. Beautiful layout! Love the pop of red!!! Love how you cut the photo and that sounds like a great idea - renting the books... pure genius! :D

  2. Wowwwwwwwwwwww! I love love love your LO Sharon!! I am LOVING the way you split the photo, the colors and loving the circle elements!!! GORGEOUS!! Thanks so much for playing along with Scrap Africa!!!

  3. Such a beautiful page for this amazing photo!! Like Julie, love the split photo!! ~ Blessings, Tracey

  4. Beautiful! I love the colors and your interpretation of the sketch.

  5. Very pretty Sharon. I'm taking Greg back to the airport Sunday. He's been home since December 27th. Today was the first day I didn't get as emotional (not sure why). I know someday he won't have as many roots here and our time will be even shorter for his stays. I imagine it's a little hard for our kids (leaving too). I recall being in my 30s before I quit crying when I left my Mom and Dad's (and they only live 2 hours from here). Give Annie an extra hug from me tonight!

  6. Hi Sharon, what another great layout you've made!! I'm so happy to see another outdoor nature one, LOVE THESE KINDS!! It's beautiful and the sketch is a fun one. I'm actually getting some layouts done too, hoping to share next week if blogger works for my photos.

It is hard every time they leave, my oldest is 23 and it hurts each time. Enjoy the memories and keep looking at her photos from her being home. Each day does get a little easier. HUGS FOR YOU MY FRIEND!!

  7. Can't imaging how hard it was to drop Kate off. So glad the book bill was less!!

    Beautiful LO and interpretation Sharon!

  8. Great layout Sharon! Another stunning photo and love the sentiment of your journalling! Love the clean lines....keeps the focus on that beauty of a photo! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Scrap Africa! ;-)

  9. Very beautiful! Can I give you a hint with the books? Go to Amazon and you should be able to find the same books for cheap!

  10. I've never been in that situation, but I can't even imagine how much you miss your girl when she leaves. I love your layout, and the lyrics are perfect for that beautiful photo!

  11. I love it how you framed the photo. This is a real special effect. I also think the color scheme goes very well with the whole layout and I love the snowflakes background! It's a very coherent layout and I love the touch of red in it.

PS I have also uploaded my layout for the challenge, have a look if you like:

  12. I love the red and blue color combo and great take on the sketch. So glad to see you play along with us at Scrap Africa.
