We're going to the zoo,zoo,zoo . . .

Remember that song by Peter Paul and Mary . .
"We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo,
How about you, you, you,
You can come too, too, too,
We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo!"

If you have been following my blog, you know that we have been having an extremely busy summer with Katie.  She just finised up a week of "Girls Nation" in Washington, DC.  She had some amazing experiences and even got to meet some of our senators, Nancy Pelosi, and President Obama!

These pictures were taken at the White House:

It was an experience of a lifetime for Katie!

We planned to visit the Smithosian National Zoo after we picked up Katie at the 4-H Center in Washington, DC.  It was literally 5 min from where we got Katie.  But first, we went for breakfast at a nearby diner called "The American City Diner."

Everbody working there was so nice, funny, friendly, and amazing!
The waitress even got Monty a cup of coffee.
Ymmmmmmm!

We decided to go to the zoo early so that we could get a parking spot and start walking through before it officially opened at 10:00 AM.

Don't be mislead by the smiles on their faces - both girls were cranky and grouchy - I guess the heat and humidity got to them, too.

And poor Tian Tian must have been exhausted from the heat - he just would not wake up.  Mei Xiang was being kept indoors to protect her from the extreme heat, so this was the only glimpse of her we got:
Much to Katie and Anne's chagrin, we trudged on to see more.  They wanted to go home!!!!  We did get to see some cool animals:

We stopped back to see if Tian Tian had woken up:
No such luck!
Here's my family at their happiest that day - - - - going home!
Notice the spring in their step.

We've been to the zoo, zoo, zoo . . .

Thanks so much for stopping by - I hope you are having a great Sunday!

  7. I love the zoo. The San Diego Zoo is about an hour from here and it's my FAVORITE place to spend a Saturday afternoon. I LOVE your photos - awesome job. And it looks like you kept your sense of humor thru the heat and humidity. Your description of the "spring in your family's steps" on their way out/home, made me smile.
    Thanks for sharing.

I am kind of just trying to keep it together and get some things done after returning home... my house got kinda dirty in the 7 weeks I was gone, can't believe how quick that happens!! Anyway thanks again for your friendship.
