Closer to Fine

My sister, Cathy, was 52 years old when she passed away in June of 2003. She just missed her 53rd birthday after battling ovarian cancer and it's treatment for almost 10 years. I have been going through a depression every since. I have learned to deal with the sadness and loss, and it has gotten so much better with the love and support of family and friends, but a day doesn't go by that I don't think of her. After her death, I steadily gained weight, and reached a plateau in the fall of last year. I even had to go on blood pressure medication to control my hypertension last year. I finally knew that I had to do something, so I decided to go on Jenny Craig, for my health, my happiness, and to be a good example for my daughters. It has been the best decision of my life. I have lost 34 pounds so far . . .

I have 5 more pounds to go to reach my goal weight!

This week's Scrapping the Music's song is "Closer to Fine" by the Indigo Girls. When I purchased those size 8 jeans, I had to do a scrapbook page about how amazing it felt.

If you feel inspired by this awesome song, go join in on the fun at http://www.scrappingthemusic.blogspot.com/ .

My layout is based on a sketch by Jessica aka scrapbaby at the memory lane pa site on facebook. She has been making the most amazing sketches there.
Happy St. Patrick's Day, Cathy!!!

  4. Wow Sharon - What an amazing accomplishment. I've been trying to drop about 10 lbs for a year now with NO luck. You are my inspiration!! I applaud you for not letting the loss of Cathy and your grief untimately consume your life. I am sure she would want only the best for you. I know my life was turned upside after the loss of both my parents and in-laws in a four year period. It's tough to "get back in the saddle" and go on as before. But, you've set such a wonderful example for your girls. They will be stronger, wiser and healthier because of you. Only 5 more pounds - you go girl!!

  7. Congratulations on being so close to your goal! That is awesome!

Thanks for sharing about your sister. I lost my best friend to bile duct cancer a week ago and it has been extremely hard to deal with. She would have been 51 in May. The sadness is miserable, but I keep trying to remember that she is in a better place. That doesn't help me miss her less though.
