Our family vacation in California

The last week of the year we did something that was very long overdue. We took a family vacation! Our last family trip was to Disney World in 2007. We were actually planning to go back to Disney World, but found that it was just way too expensive to stay there at holiday time. So, we decided to take Kate and Anne back to a place where their parents lived 20 years earlier - right after they got married! John surprised us with a trip that he planned - to California.

We saw Salinas, CA, where we lived in our first apartment as newlywed's. The vast farm-lands

there are mind-boggling.

Monterey and Big Sur are just as beautiful now as we remembered them in the year 2000. The Highway 1 road trip was beautiful, and scary at the same time.

For Katie, we visited the campus at Stanford University,

which was absolutely beautiful.

What high school student wouldn't want to go there?

(Driving over the awesome Golden Gate Bridge.)

Our trip ended in San Francisco - a wonderful exclamation point at the end of a fabulous trip. When we got home, I felt melancholy and a little sad because I knew that this would be one of the last times we would all have together before Katie goes off to college.

Happy New Year to all!
